What About Healthy Eating Habits – Adapting to a Healthy Lifestyle

Today more than ever, it’s important to adapt to a healthy lifestyle. There are many ways to do this. Most recently I had someone ask me “what about healthy eating habits”? This is a topic I would like to focus on today. Some of our eating habits were started during our childhood but that doesn’t mean we can’t adapt now to a healthy lifestyle. Enjoy these healthy eating habits highlighted below and please comment if you have any experiences of your own to share.

Drink more water-It’s important to hydrate and replenish lost moisture in our bodies. The best way to do this is to drink water. But not any kind of water, filtered water is the way to go. The way to get filtered water can vary. Some people have filters built in to their home refrigerators. There are also portable water filters available for purchase. They range from counter top to under the counter.

Sit down at a table and not in front of the TV-Eating in front of the television can cause overeating. It can cause distraction to the point of not realizing your eating because you’re paying more attention to the TV. A suggestion is to try creating a set meal time with a friend or family so you’re not tempted to plop in front of the TV.

Quit fad diets-Fad diets are not the best when it comes to a healthy lifestyle due to its usually sudden radical change to the body. It’s best to find a healthy well-balanced meal plan that becomes a habit. Once it becomes a habit, it will be easier to stick to it everyday.

Consume fresh and UNprocessed foods-Processed foods are generally found in the center of your grocery store. If you can focus on the outside perimeter of your grocery store then you will be able to focus on the more healthy selections like fruit, veggies, wild caught fish, and fresh baked goods. You can also visit an online store like Thrive Market that focuses on healthy organic selections delivered to your front door.

Eat 3 well-balanced meals per day-Be sure to not skip meals. Some people rush through mornings and don’t eat breakfast. It’s important to eat a good breakfast to help start your day. I suggest pre-planning the week of meals so you’re sure to eat healthy during the week. Try buying some grab and go items in case you’re running late. I also have enjoyed baking on the weekends so I have some homemade baked goods handy during the week. If you need some help with eating healthy consider a plant based diet which leads to better health and please visit Food Revolution Network.

  1. I came across your article and website at a very convenient time! You have given comprehensive advice on a number of aspects of choosing the right food and pay attention to your eating choices. What a good reminder!I got particularly more interested in the health habits we learn in our childhood and the tips on how to adapt them: the importance of drinking water, stop sitting in front of the tv to eat, stop eating processed food and say goodbye to the diets and instead ag doing them focus on having a healthier lifestyle and more quality time with family and friends. From now on I am going to think more carefully about my eating habits and have more quality time with the ones I love!

  2. This was interesting and something we all need to consider. When I think about all the sausages and mash that I ate as a child from an English home I realise this probably wasn’t the best diet. Reading your post has made me really think about what I eat on a daily basis, how much water do I really drink in a day and do I pig out in front of the t.v. Definitely time for some changes.

  4. Thanks for these simple yet effective ways to have a healthy life. Drinking water is no problem for me, but I find myself eating a lot of process food just because quick and easy to cook.

Do you know any simple and tasty recipes that someone who doesn’t know how to cook well can do? I like chicken and rice but everything I make seems to come out dry and bland.

Also thank you for that awesome tip that the healthy foods are on the outer parts of the grocery store. I never realized that lol.

    • @Michael  thanks for visiting my website.  Regarding your cooking question, maybe try adding some extra seasoning.  I have a ton of recipes and I’ve been thinking about sharing them here.

  5. Yes, I agree. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is very important, now more than ever due to the current global situation. Additionally, staying hydrated is an absolute must.

It’s interesting that you mention eating 3, well-balanced meals a day, but I have also heard that eating little and often (e.g. having 5 small meals per day) can also be healthy. What do you think?

    • @Shell thanks for visiting my website.  I have heard that about having 5 small meals.  I think it’s alright but some people don’t have time for that so they stick to 3 balanced meals.

  6. Many Thanks Alyse, for these healthy habit tips. You are very correct by advising us to take in more water in order to replenish the lost ones by dehydration coupled with the fact that water makes up about 60% of the human body. I also appreciate for notifying me not to sit closer to the TV while eating-this is my first time knowing this. Moreover, paying more attention to natural and unprocessed foods is healthier since processed foods often lack some nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fibers, as some of these processed foods are genetically modified (GM). I just wish you could help me with some examples of fad foods.
    Thanks.

    • @akon  thanks for visiting my website..if you mean examples of fad diets, here is a definition:A fad diet is a diet that is popular for a time, similar to fads in fashion, without being a standard dietary recommendation, and often promising unreasonably fast weight loss or nonsensical health improvements.
